Travel through magnificent scenery dotted with rushing mountain streams, with tea and coffee plantations in the shadow of Kenya's highest mountain and Africa's second-highest peak. Skirt around Mount Kenya, pass through the town of Nanyuki and finally reach Isiolo, a dusty town in the remote Northern Frontier District. From here it is only a short drive to Shaba National Reserve. Arrive at Sarova Shaba Lodge for lunch, followed by an afternoon game drive, returning to the lodge at sunset. With thousands of flamingos along the shore, the lake often shimmers pink. Lunch is served on arrival. After lunch, set off on an afternoon game drive. Like the beautiful flamingos, black and white rhinos are carefully protected in this 188 sq km fully fenced park, where they have been given a new lease of life. There are more than 50 rhinos, and their number is still growing. Rothschild's giraffe is another rare animal to be seen here, and the park also has sizeable numbers of buffalo, leopards, zebras, elands, antelopes and lions. This is one of Africa's finest wildlife reserves, with vast grasslands, rivers and mountains, and an important stage for the great animal migration. Check in at Sarova Mara Game Camp and enjoy lunch, then set out on an afternoon game drive, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. The camp is located in the east of the Maasai Mara, hidden in a beautiful little forested valley. During the annual Great Migration, the camp is teeming with wildebeests, gazelles and zebras, as it sits right in the centre of their migration path.
