TRAVEL MAMA'S INSIDER TIPS FOR TAIWAN
📑 A Quick Note on the Taiwan Visa
HK and Macau residents should apply for the e-Visa in advance. While digital is convenient, we highly recommend printing a hard copy to ensure a smooth immigration process, just in case of phone battery or network issues.
🚐 The "Warm-Hearted" Drivers of Taiwan
Taiwanese drivers are renowned for their hospitality and might even treat you to seasonal fruits. If you hit it off, they might just detour to a secret, off-the-map photo spot!
🗑️ The Street Trash Can Challenge
Taiwan strictly enforces a "no trash on the ground" policy, meaning public bins are rare. Bring a small plastic bag for your skewers and cups while street food hunting, and dispose of them at convenience stores or MRT stations.
💳 E-Payment or Cash?
While the EasyCard is ubiquitous, "Cash is King" at night markets and traditional shops. Keep enough New Taiwan Dollars on hand to fully enjoy your culinary adventures.
🧋 No Drinking (Even Water) on the MRT
Unlike Hong Kong, eating and drinking—even taking a sip of water are strictly prohibited past the yellow warning lines in Taiwan's MRT stations. Hold your bubble tea or keep it in your bag to avoid fines!
♻️ Bring Your Own Toothbrush
Due to Taiwan's new eco-friendly policies, most premium hotels and boutique homestays no longer provide disposable toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste. Remember to pack your own—it's greener and more hygienic!
