In the morning, we will embark on a sightseeing tour of Lisbon, exploring this city of seven mountains in Portugal and admiring its charming alleyways, iconic tiles, and beautiful Atlantic Ocean light. We will also visit the Belém district, where Portugal's great 15th-century navigators set sail. The afternoon is free time; you can visit Bairro Alto and its viewpoints, or choose to take an optional tour of the towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we will return to the hotel from the lively Restaurantadores Square.
We will depart early for southern Portugal, crossing the long bridge over the Tagus River. Upon arrival in the Algarve, we will explore the historic city of Lagos, a port from which Portuguese ships once set sail for Brazil. In the afternoon, we will travel to Cape St. Vincent, the westernmost point of mainland Europe, to admire the cliff views and photograph the historic Sagres Fortress. Afterwards, we will travel to the seaside city of Albufeira, where we will stay overnight in Albufeira or a city near the Algarve.
Continuing our journey to the Alentejo region, we first visit the museum town of Mértola, dominated by a massive castle. Then, we stroll through the ancient city of Beja for lunch. Our journey continues to Évora, where we visit the unique Bone Church (entrance fee included) and explore this UNESCO World Heritage-listed walled city.
Travel through the scenic Alentejo region, stopping at the picturesque old town of Marvão and the Castelo de Vide castle and Jewish quarter. After lunch, visit the Christ the Redeemer Monastery in Tomar (entrance fee included). Before reaching Fátima, stop at the Aljustrel Shepherd's House. Upon arrival in Fátima, free time is available at the sanctuary. Dinner is included in the evening.
Travel to northern Portugal. Arrive in Porto, Portugal's second-largest city, at approximately 11:00 AM. Enjoy a tour of the historic center along the Douro River (included), and visit an old winery (included). Free time in the afternoon for independent exploration.
Experience the breathtaking scenery of northern Portugal. Stroll through Braga, the religious capital, and take the world's oldest cable car to the Bom Jesus shrine. Visit the Guimarães Palace.
