The temperature is more comfortable from April to June and from September to October. If you want to see the lavender fields in Provence, the most common time is from mid-June to mid-July; however, the flowering period varies from year to year, so please check again before you go.

Southern France requires advance travel time
The drive from Paris to the French Riviera or the hill towns of Provence is quite long. If you want to travel both north and south in one trip, you'll need to add nights and avoid cramming too many places into one day.
