[Foster Family Diary 1] The Foster Child's First Flight
寄養家庭

The first flight for a foster child

This is the sixth foster child we've taken in.

After overcoming numerous difficulties, we finally succeeded in applying to take our foster child on a trip abroad for the first time, which was also his first time on an airplane. Before departure, he was already excitedly counting down the days. He said he wanted to bring a sketchbook to draw airplanes and clouds. He also said he wanted to buy a new dress so he could look pretty on the trip. When we arrived at the airport, he was very quiet.

Once on the plane, Cheng Cheng stared out the window without uttering a single word.

I asked her, "What's wrong? Are you happy?"

After a while, he spoke softly:

"It turns out the sky is like this."

For him, this scene is likely a first; foster children aren't like your own children, they might not remember who you are, and in a few years, they might not even remember what you look like. But I really hope he'll remember that one year when he was in kindergarten...

I've flown once.

I looked up at the clouds in the sky.

It might be related to very faint memories.

But I hope that in that moment, I could give him a feeling:

The world is so big.

We become foster families not because of any lofty ideals. I'll explain the reason in the next post. Before we knew it, we'd reached the sixth one. Every child is different; some are very attached, and some just leave without a word. And every time we part, there's a little bit of reluctance.

But we've always believed that even if it's just for a period of time,

Each of these can leave a little bit of light in a certain stage of their lives.

Even if they don't remember us in the end,

I remember that he had taken that flight once.

I have seen the clouds in the sky.
