Kaohsiung Breakfast Shop ❶ Xinglongju -- Sweet and savory soup, be careful not to burn your mouth!
Locals in Kaohsiung are very familiar with Xinglongju, a traditional Taiwanese breakfast spot for those going to karaoke, having late-night snacks, and heading to early work. Its breakfast aroma has been a part of Kaohsiung's lives for 62 years. Every morning at 3:30 AM, customers eagerly await the arrival of steaming baskets of freshly made soup dumplings. Xinglongju's soup dumplings are similar to the vegetable and pork dumplings we eat in Hong Kong teahouses, filled with cabbage and pork, with a thin skin and generous filling. It's recommended to take a small bite of the outer layer first to enjoy the sweet and savory broth; be careful not to burn your lips when they're piping hot fresh out of the steamer. Long-time customers have been eating here since childhood, praising the consistently high quality of the taste over the decades.

高雄早餐店 ❷ 果貿早餐--現場製包點
六合二路附近,除了早餐必吃的興隆居外,還有旁邊的果貿早餐。在路口轉彎處的店,店內是現場製作的包點,十多款的傳統包點如水煎包、燒餅、蛋餅等等,有甜有鹹,任君挑選。當地人最推薦蘿蔔絲餅,餡餅相當扎實,外表鬆軟,蘿蔔絲餡十分鮮甜,絕不油膩。一般餡餅新鮮出爐味道最佳,重點是,果貿早餐的蘿蔔絲餅可做到隔幾個小時後,餡餅仍外脆內軟,蘿蔔絲餅每個只售NT$13,當地人建議多買幾個做下午茶。

高雄早餐店 ❸ 大港飯糰--每朝7、8點人龍店
位於正興路的50年老字號:大港飯糰,店門寫着「超人氣鹹蛋飯糰」,確實早上7、8點已經開始出現人龍,大家都是為了「鹹蛋」而來。早餐就食鹹蛋會不會太重口味?小攤擺滿一排排的鹹蛋,老闆娘純熟的手勢打開蛋殼後,把橙紅鹹蛋壓碎平放在糯米上,一個飯糰一個鹹蛋,冇多冇少,加上自家炒製的菜脯、脆卜卜老油條、酸菜肉鬆等配料。鹹蛋油包滿飯粒,蛋黃不太鹹,且大港的糯米用木桶蒸熟,米飯帶有木香味,熱騰騰粢飯加上鹹蛋的確是意外的絕配。雖然鹹蛋飯糰確實好吃,但畢竟鹹蛋膽固醇比較高,應適可而止。

高雄早餐店 ❹ 美迪亞鍋燒麵--高雄最好吃鍋燒麵
相信是全台灣只高雄才有這個特徵 – 早餐吃鍋燒伊麵。覺得誇張? 絕對是。有些當地人笑說台北人跟高雄人的分別就是高雄人會吃鍋燒伊麵早餐,這碗稱得上是「高雄最好吃的鍋燒麵」,位於六合夜市附近的美迪亞海鮮鍋燒麵確實非常有誠意。每碗鍋燒麵NT70,有蝦、蜆、目魚丸、肉丸、生菜、雞蛋、雞絲,用骨頭自家熬煮的大骨湯頭,伊麵輕輕用大火一煮,不太硬也不太軟,口感剛好,不消15分鐘湯連麵整碗都KO。
